Cabourg Directions

This is the best way to Cabourg from Deauville and back:
bullet

From the Church...follow the D278 through Saint Arnoult.  At the Round, take the direction "Tourgeville, Dezoule", which keeps you on the 278.  Leaving St. Arnoult you will come to a roundabout.  Take the direction to the right--the D27 towards Dezoule, Tourgeville, Cabourg.

bullet

Keep on this road all the way.  It's mostly open to the sun.  There is a bit of a rise after Tourgeville but after that it's quite easy going.

bullet

There will be a terrific downhill rush after Auberville.  Hang on because the roads are quite swervy!

bullet

Take the D49 (direction Dives sur Mer) and then the D400 or you can skip the D49 and just keep on the D27 a bit more and take the D400.  In any case, keep going towards Cabourg.

bullet

Enjoy a ride to the center of town.  There is a lovely street with shops.  Be sure to walk along the boardwalk and admire the Grand Hotel and its view of the sea--just the way Proust saw it.

bullet

Go back to the center of town and towards Dives sur Mer, Cabourg's sister town and then Houlgate. Houlgate is a pretty town and deserves a visit on its own.

bullet

Once there be sure NOT to take the direction suggested to Deauville (D513).  Instead take the sign that points to the center of town.  You'll be going uphill a bit.  Turn right unto Avenue du Sporting (yep, it's uphill) and at the top you will be able to take the D163.

bullet

This road will take you to a beautiful vantage point above the Falaises des Vaches Noir.  And once you're up there you'll have no further steep rises to worry about.

bullet

After a while this road will merge back into the D513.  There will be another terrific downhill ride after Auberville to Villiers sur Mer.

bullet

Admire the dinosaur!

bullet

Continue on the D513 all the way through the flat coastal road to the bit of rise around Bonneville, and home to Deauville!
